The Clean Energy Council is excited to announce Laura Jeffrey, Senior Project Manager at Squadron Energy, as the recipient of the 2025 Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Scholarship.
This scholarship supports a woman working in the clean energy industry to undertake the AICD Foundations of Directorship course and is focused on helping to increase the pool of highly-skilled women candidates for board roles within the clean energy sector.
As the leader of the Victorian development team at Squadron Energy, Laura is at the forefront of driving renewable energy projects that contribute to the growth of the sector and support Australia’s transition to clean energy.
"One of the things I love most about working in renewables is the variety of people I collaborate with," she says. "From engineers to landowners, every project is a team effort, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact we can make together."
Beyond project development, Laura is passionate about fostering an inclusive and diverse renewable energy industry. She has seen how mentorship and professional networks can empower women to take on leadership roles.
“I see myself playing a role in this by continuing to be a strong advocate for women in the sector, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and contributing to a more inclusive, diverse, and sustainable future in renewable energy” says Laura.
Laura's advice to women and underrepresented groups who are considering entering the clean energy sector is to stay true to themselves and pursue what excites them.
“We all have a place in this sector, and it’s about finding what truly inspires you and gives you a sense of achievement.” she explains. “The clean energy sector is diverse, and it needs people who bring different strengths and perspectives.” Laura also highlights the importance of building a strong support network. She advises aspiring professionals to seek out mentors and connect with peers who can offer guidance, support and new opportunities along the way.
The AICD scholarship is part of the Clean Energy Council’s Women in Renewables initiative, which is celebrating 10 years of empowering women in the clean energy industry. Over the past decade, we’ve supported hundreds of women with networking and professional development opportunities, helping them advance and take on leadership roles at every stage of their careers.
I hope to gain a deeper understanding of governance and strategy, particularly in relation to decision-making at a senior leadership level.Laura Jeffrey Senior Project Manager, Squadron Energy
